I was captivated by the magic of books and the power they held. Growing up, I developed a profound love for reading and writing, immersing myself in fantastic worlds and relishing the emotions that words could evoke. I embarked on my writing journey inspired by Jim Henson's beloved television show, Sesame Street. My first childhood story about Oscar the Grouch, fueling my intense imagination and my desire that would set me on a path of storytelling.

 

Little did I know then that this iconic show not only entertained countless children but also gave solace and inspiration to those, like me, who struggled with ADHD. Research has shown to the power of his storytelling and its ability to connect with diverse audiences. I am thrilled to share a glimpse into my world as an author. This blog post takes you on a remarkable journey, uncovering the challenges I've faced and the triumphs I've celebrated along the way. However, overcoming the obstacles in my life had its own plans for me. I was diagnosed with dysgraphia, dyslexia a learning disability that made the act of writing and reading a challenge. This hurdle threatened to derail my dreams, but I refused to let it define me. With unwavering determination, I sought ways to navigate around my limitations, discovering alternative methods of expression and adapting my writing process to suit my unique needs.

In the depths of adulthood, a recent diagnosis of learning disabilities - dysgraphia and dyslexia - transformed my educational journey. While pursuing a university degree, these unexpected challenges redirected my path from a psychology/linguistics degree to an English and culture degree. Little did I know that this detour would lead me towards my true passion as a writer.

Through the trials and tribulations of my writing journey, I embarked on a profound path of self-discovery. I recognized that my neurodivergent mind wasn't a hindrance but a powerful force that shaped my perspective and fueled my creativity. It gave me a unique voice, a distinctive lens through which I could convey my thoughts and emotions. My experiences with dysgraphia, dyslexia and ADHD - became an integral part of my identity as an author, infusing my stories with authenticity and depth.

 

As a cross-genre writer, I find solace in the absence of literary boundaries. My words flow seamlessly, unrestricted by the confines of a specific genre. This liberating choice allows my creativity to flourish, unhampered by restrictions. Interestingly, my university experience, with its limitations, shed light on the dampening effect that genre-specific writing can have on my wild imagination.

My decision to embark on a university journey has proven to be a transformative experience. It has become a pivotal moment in my life, offering invaluable opportunities for self-discovery and personal growth. With no regrets, I embraced the challenges and allowed the academic environment and some very meaningful important individuals that supported me that helped shape my identity as a writer.

 

As I honed my craft connecting through stories, I realized that storytelling was not only a means of self-expression but also a powerful tool for connection. Through my writing, I aimed to touch the hearts and minds of readers, to transport them to new worlds, and to evoke emotions that linger long after they turn the final page.
